Lata Mangeshkar, A Nightingale of India’ passes away

According to BBC NEWS, Lata Mangeshkar, one of India’s famous cultural icons and a singer has died at the age of 92 . She defined music and melody for generations across South Asia. She was under treatment from January 11 after contracting COVID-19. According to Dr. Pratit Samdani, she died of “multi-organ failure” at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday.

The Nightingale of  India, Lata was born in Maharashtra on September 28, 1929. She first sang at religious gatherings along with her father Deenanath, who was also a singer. As well as Her younger sister Asha Bhonsle is also a great singer, both are superstars in their own right. Lata Mangeshkar ruled the Bollywood music industry for more than half a century. The number of songs is about 27000 in  36 different languages including English, Russian, and Dutch.

She has also worked in a few films as an actress, to support her family but was not happy with that.  She said in an interview that”I was the happiest singing”. Lata Mangeshkar received India’s highest honor for civilians, the Bharat Ratna, in 2001. Mangeshkar did never married. But she had an outstanding life along with her work as she had interests from cricket to cars.

Indian Home Minister said that Mangeshkar will receive a state funeral and the government will observe state mourning with the flag at half-staff through Monday. Crowds gathered outside her home for farewell. Her coffin began its journey to a city park where it was publicly cremated.
